Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a confidential nonprofit organization in the Texarkana area to hire an experienced Staff Accountant. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the day-to-day accounting process, takes pride in accuracy, and has a strong understanding of financial reporting and journal entry preparation.

What You'll Be Doing

• Handle daily accounting functions and maintain accurate financial records
• Prepare complex journal entries and ensure proper supporting documentation is maintained
• Review and reconcile ledger activity to identify and correct discrepancies
• Assist with monthly financial close processes and reporting deadlines
• Analyze account activity and maintain accuracy across financial data
• Support preparation of internal financial reports and audit documentation
• Monitor cash activity and assist with tracking organizational expenditures
• Process and review accounting transactions for completeness and accuracy
• Assist leadership with budget tracking and financial analysis
• Maintain organized accounting files and supporting records
• Collaborate with internal departments regarding financial questions and reporting needs
• Ensure accounting practices remain compliant with organizational standards and accounting guidelines

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience
• Strong background in preparing journal entries is REQUIRED
• Experience with general ledger maintenance and reconciliations
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• Strong attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies in financial records
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism

Preferred Background

• Experience working in nonprofit accounting environments
• Exposure to audit preparation and financial reporting
• Knowledge of fund accounting or grant-related reporting is helpful
• CPA track or advanced accounting education is a plus
