Washburn provides first-year MA level interns with a $1,500
stipend ($750 per semester); for MA level interns
who are in their second year, the stipend is
$3,000 ($1,500 per semester)

Case Managers work collaboratively with families and acrossmultidisciplinary treatment teams to develop a care plan and ensure access to needed services, including mental, social, educational, health, vocational, and recreational assistance. Our case managers advocate on behalf of the child and family's needs and coordinate care across multiple providers. These services are provided for children aged 3 through 17.

Interns shadow and observe a small caseload with a Case Management clinician in order to support culturally based, individualized service to children and families in their home, school, and community. Interns will also independently manage a small caseload of Case Management clients of up to 4 individual clients. The purpose is to improve or maintain a child's emotional and behavioral functioning, to help the family access needed resources for the child, and to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement, risk of maltreatment, or the need for protective services.

Responsibilities

Clinical Treatment - The intern will educate, support, and empower families to self-advocate and navigate various systems with more confidence and skill, as well as observe specialized direct services to children and their families in their homes, schools, and communities.

• Service Plan Development

o Develop an Individual Family Community Support Plan (IFCSP) based on the functional assessment and diagnosis

• Refer, Coordination, and Monitoring Services

o Make referrals and perform related activities to help an individual obtain needed services

o Assist in connecting the client and the family to the services, e.g., medical, social, educational, etc

o Coordinate services identified in the service plan, both individually and in collaboration with the treatment team and other service providers in the community. The clinician may be required to travel and participate in activities in Hennepin County and the surrounding areas to ensure the coordination of services, some of the activities may include judicial appearances as required by the court and attending IEP meetings

o Monitor/evaluate services, such as determining whether the services were provided as requested and meet the client's needs

o Adjust services over the duration of the client's case management to ensure needs are still being met

Documentation - All interns are to ensure Minnesota and HIPAA data privacy requirements are followed. Interns will gain experience with and be expected to maintain documentation as specified in our Clinical Policy Manual, including:

• Complete a written functional assessment

• Document assessment activities

• Develop the service plan and documenting the IFCSP

• Update and review the service plan throughout the duration of the case

• Document all case activities

• Timely communications with the program director, the supervisor, and/or program support to ensure clear communication throughout the program

Supervision and Professional Development - Interns are invited to:

• Attend weekly supervision and case consultation, present case information, and create and identify questions for consultation and supervision

• Provide and receive support from other team members

• Attend team meetings on Wednesdays from 9:00am - 10:30am. The program also has consultation the first Tuesday of the month from 9:00am to 10:00am and the second Tuesday of the month from 8:30am - 10:30am

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in Master's of Social Work Program (candidates must be in their foundation placement)

• Must be earning academic credit for an internship placement

• Applicants should be flexible, resourceful, and demonstrate knowledge of cultural diversity and the role of culture in the therapeutic process

• Knowledge and application of trauma informed practice and experience working with children that have experienced trauma is desired
