Position Summary:Assists a variety of customers (truckers, shipping lines, brokers, shippers) and collaborates with other Port Houston departments to provide answers and timely service for the shipments moving through the Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminals. Monitors and responds to the gate Trouble desk. Manages very large volumes of emails and phone calls to ensure all customers are provided with the appropriate assistance.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Respond expeditiously to all customer inquiries and requests; resolve customer problems/issues/concerns
  • Provide daily support and interaction with customers and carriers
  • Process transactions for truck drivers, in- and out-bound, to the terminal using the Navis software system.
  • Monitor and report daily rail activities including drays to / from the rail ramp, train arrivals and departures, outstanding holds, and booking issues.
  • Coordinate and compile rail orders, container lists, delivery orders, and N4 updates as necessary for rail containers.
  • Communicate to all rail stakeholders to resolve any concerns that may prevent efficient flow of rail cargo.
  • Expedite resolution of rejected (in- and out-bound) containers
  • Resolve issues arising from billing or information system errors
  • Support the Operations division and Logistics Coordinators as needed
  • Research, complete, or cancel old open gate transactions
  • Assist Stevedores with vessel planning issues
  • Achieve high productivity with accurate results
  • Provide training to customers on use of Navis N4 and the Customer Service Portal, Lynx.
  • Support Operations with Rail Dray, Empty Container Dray, and Hazardous Container coordination
  • Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime
    when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
  • Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor

  • Perform related duties as required

Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 3+ years of previous customer service experience required
  • Marine Terminal Logistics experience preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly desired

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:
  • Knowledge of basic hazardous placard and documentation requirements for marine containers
  • Knowledge of computer software and functions at terminal, including inventory procedures, yard services, vessel billing, yard planning, remote entry station procedures, and EDI
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, including strong verbal and listening skills
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work professionally and efficiently in fast paced environment with different personalities
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Ability to self-manage work pace and assigned duties
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to cross-train within department, possibly with other departments, to achieve higher level of position/company knowledge to perform to higher standards
  • Ability to perform essential duties of position with time constraints, interruptions, and stressed dispatchers and drivers
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Navis, and OCR systems
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
