What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)

• Review, analyze, and interpret clinical documentation, applying appropriate ICD-10 coding conventions
• Verify coding accuracy and compliance with Medicare and payer specifications
• Communicate effectively with physicians and allied health personnel regarding clinical documentation
• Discuss optimization and documentation issues with relevant clinical personnel to ensure accurate coding and reimbursement
• Query physicians for clarification on discrepancies or additional diagnoses as needed

What is Required (Qualifications)

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of related experience
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
• Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification

How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

• Experience in a healthcare coding environment
• Familiarity with MS-DRG Medicare Prospective Payment System requirements
• Strong understanding of UHDDS rules and official coding guidelines
• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clinical staff
