Prepare and provide individualized instruction and accommodations in a supportive and inclusive general education and/or special education environment that empowers each student to achieve his/her potential.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degreeValid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education plus Elementary Self Contained 1-8 or Gen/Core EC-6Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of academic subject(s) assignedDemonstrated proficiency in creation, implementation, and progress monitoring of specially designed instructionMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Instructional Planning and Support:Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process to collaborate with students, parents, campus, and District staff to develop appropriately challenging Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.Maintain general knowledge of grade level curriculum and instruction standards and best practices.Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.Collect and analyze student progress data including formal and informal assessments.Provide data based academic and behavioral support recommendations.Use data to plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment to meet the individualized needs and capabilities of students.Implement and collaborate with service providers regarding personalized instructional, therapeutic, and/or skill development support systems.Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to implement modifications and accommodations, including behavior supports.Support special education students in all school settings as needed.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.Collaborate with staff on creation of student daily schedules.Effectively utilize and supervise daily schedules and assignments for paraprofessionals and/or volunteer(s).Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.Sponsor/attend activities on and off campus as approved or assigned by campus principal.Be a positive role model for students while supporting the campus and District missions.Student Growth and Development:Support student future ready skill development in the areas of communication, technology, problem solving, and social/emotional development.Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and student feedings, as stated in IEPs.Promote student independence and growth.Classroom Management and Organization:Follow District and campus guidelines for classroom layout.Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Support positive student behavior including implementing campus adopted positive behavior supports, layered behavior reinforcement systems, and following Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as described in IEPs.Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding individual student behavior supports.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Organize, maintain, and file all physical and computerized data, records, and other documents.CommunicationUtilize positive communication with school and District staff, and community members, including families.Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Consult campus and District support staff, and/or outside providers (with parent written consent) regarding student academic, behavioral, social, medical, and personal needs.Use effective communication skills to accurately and clearly present various information.Ensure student confidentiality in all communication.Professional Growth and DevelopmentParticipate in campus and District professional development. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, District, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
