GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs unskilled manual labor in construction, maintenance, and service activities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of Parks Maintenance Supervisor, Parks Foreman(s) and Parks Crew Leader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Sometimes designated as work leader on work projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in cleaning and maintaining parks, recreation facilities, landscaped areas, and other associated grounds and buildings.
Does a variety of grounds maintenance work; including mowing, weeding, tree and shrub trimming, policing parks, digging graves, preparing ball fields, and related beautification and maintenance projects.
Operates light duty vehicles in picking up and delivering tools, materials, supplies, and transports employees to various job sites.
Performs minor construction, alterations, maintenance, and repairs on parks facilities and buildings. Assists in the preparation of ball fields.
Responsible for maintaining, using, repairing, sharpening, and cleaning appropriate work tools.
Responsible for maintaining, preparing athletic fields for league and tournament play.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
(a) Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
(b) Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
(c) Some knowledge of the general tools and equipment used in manual labor, lawn care, ball field preparation, etc.

A valid drivers license
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Light duty truck, lawn mower, lawn blower, edger, weedeater, and miscellaneous hand tools.

The City of Texarkana, Texas provides three weeks of paid vacation and three weeks of paid sick leave per year as well as 13 paid holidays per year.
Retirement benefits are through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with the City contributing at a rate of 2 to 1 and the employee contributing 7% each paycheck to TMRS. Employees are vested after five years and may retire after either twenty years of service at any age or at age 60 as long as they are vested.
Retirement benefits for the Fire Department are paid through the Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund and employees are eligible to retire after twenty years of employment.
A voluntary 457 deferred compensation program through MissionSquare is also offered to all City employees.
The City of Texarkana, Texas provides health, dental, and vision insurance to its employees at a minimal cost. Life insurance equal to one times your annual salary is offered at no cost to the employee with supplemental life and dependent life insurance also available but is paid by the employee. Insurance becomes effective the first of the month following thirty days of employment.
